Marseille-Fos Port Authority
The port of Marseille-Fos has a worldwide influence. 70 regular services are linking Marseille-Fos with 5 continents, and near 100 million tons cargo are exchanged each year.
Ideally located on the shores of the Mediterranean, the port of Marseilles-Fos is the natural gateway to southern Europe.
4th European port, the port of Marseille-Fos extends along 70 km of coastline and over 10 400 hectares of land classified in Maritime Public Ownership. This area of intense activity generates 40 000 jobs in the region. The port facilities are split over two geographical sites : the Eastern harbours (Marseille) and the Western harbours (Lavéra, Caronte, Port-de-Bouc, Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, Fos-sur-Mer).
Already classified as one of the major oil ports in the world, the port of Marseille-Fos will soon be a leader in all energy sources : oil, of course, but also coal, LNG, LPG, biofuels, compound gas, wind power (28 windowmills already…), or solar panels built into roofs.
The interest of tourists and passengers in Marseille –the capital of the Mediterranean- is on the increase. The port, conscious of its strategic position, adapts to and participates in this dynamism.
Serious funding has therefore been granted of improvements to the terminals and equipment provided for passengers. Cruise liners are accommodated at the MPCC, one of the loveliest terminals in the Mediterranean, while passengers on regular shipping lines look out on the “belle bleue” (blue Mediterranean) from the Gare de la Major and its satellites, recently opened.

With a cruise atmosphere on board our car ferries, a warm, friendly mood on our combined passenger/cargo vessels and high speed thanks to the HSC, SNCM passengers have a range of travel options to choose from, depending on their needs and preferences.
The SNCM also develops complementary activities and know-how: it represents other shipping companies and provides international transit, shipbroking and consignment services. Its subsidiaries specialise in the transport sector: travel agencies, cruises and business tourism, stevedoring and port supplies.
Fully committed to a policy of sustained development, the SNCM also takes concrete action to protect the Mediterranean: selective waste sorting, reducing fuel consumption and systematically restricting the dumping waste at sea. It also raises passenger awareness of environmental protection measures and supports a number of educational and research programmes dedicated to this issue.
