AecorLink has thrived from being an innovator in marine networks and high-speed broadband communications, specialized in providing the heavily trafficked fairways with unprecedented high-speed internet.
Today the vessels are provided broadband close to the shores via 3G and farther out from the shores via slow and expensive satellite communication. AecorLink links can reach as far as 50-80 km with data speeds 80 times or more.
Wasaline, the Finnish-Swedish ferry company, said it is the first shipping line in the Baltic Sea to provide its passengers with fast and reliable Internet access. “For the first time, passengers can now surf the web, use social media and streaming services the same way they do at home,” the company said in a statement, adding that the new service would also target shipboard conference business. The total distance covered is about 90 km.
